Hi all,

I have been unable install NS7.0 on my WinXP Pro SP1. Everything was OK untill I hit the "Install" button. The error message flashed quickly, saying that it cannot read a file but I can't get the file name. Are there any Windows services that need be running when installing NS7.0 ?

Please help. Thank you.

Hey there, I get the same thing. "Error occurred during installation - Netscape XPCOM; -207 CANT_READ_ARCHIVE" . I notice your question is a couple of weeks old. Did you ever get it to run? I still haven't.

If you save the installer files locally, there should be no problem performing an install.

You'd be surprised. Why do you think I'm posting to this forum?

Long day from hell, sorry. Try running a local install with the files you downloaded, but first turn off virus protection, firewall, tsr's, etc, maybe defrag first, run Windoctor if you have it. One of those "grasping at straws" days.

I hate to bear bad news - I used the Netscape 7.0 paid support to reinstall my mail directory from a crashed W98. The guy told me that the mail client WILL NOT WORK with XP SP1. I was trying to see if he was for real - sorry to say it looks like he was. He says wait for their next version.

I actually got it to work last week after I found this page:

with this advice:

1.7. Installation fails: "netscape xpcom:-207 cant_read_archive"

You likely installed Service Pack-1 for XP recently. Use Windows FIND feature to locate a file named ZLIB.DLL in the Windows program directory. There may be other files by that name elsewhere. Rename this file to ZLIB_DLL.OLD. Then install NS7.

I've been up and running for a few days now.

Sounds to me like they don't pay their tech support enough. ;-)
