i'm trying to get something out of a netra t4 but am having problems.

after having problems getting the ok prompt i set "bootmode forth" in LOM to get it. then on trying to do a "boot net" i get the error...

"Fast Data Access MMU Miss"

this comes up instantly.

before using bootmode forth the machine wouldn't boot. it doesn't have an OS on but i'm used to seeing something thru the console but all i got was "..". i was also watching ttya but nothing showed up there either.

ok, i can get everything to work as desired if i do "bootmode -u" in LOM. i don't really know why it died so pathetically without doing this tho.
i'd appreciate it if anyone could explain what was really going on. :)

Don't know if this is the case ...

Server systems that use the 400MHz UltraSPARC II with 2/8mb ecache CPU module(s) will fail to boot to Solaris 2.5.1 or Solaris 2.6 cdrom (or JumpStart image) with "Fast Data Access MMU Miss" and/or "mutex_enter: bad mutex". SRDB 20149 describes this problem and has the exact procedure to boot/load these systems with 2.5.1/2.6.

the problem seemed to be caused by the machine not being able to find any port for the serial console.
the only thing that really seemed to fix it was changing the eeprom settings
output-device=lom-console
input-device=lom-console

to keyboard and mouse. and bcos it doesn't have a kb or mouse it went to the lom-console. after changing both input and output back to lom-console it seems ok. the same thing has happened with two other netra's, so maybe i have some buggy lom cards.
