I just purchased the Netport serial to Ethernet adapter and would like to use it as an alternative to Socket Magix.

Has anyone tried this. I installed on Friday but could not connect to the magix. Is it possible that I need the 355A adapter? or maybe a null modem adapter? Do i need to tell the virtual comport to send out anything speacial. it wants a port address. I know 8080 is used for the web. what would be a port to use?

This is a link to the netport if anyone is curious.

MJ, your talking about a $2,000 solution compared to a $99 one. I already have systems in place that use Merlin Messaging. If I wanted to shell out that kind of money I would just get the Socket Magix for $800. Plus my company is to cheap. :)

I have to purchase another Netport before I can test again.
My company is loving the fact that we are pulling SMDR from our new site and now I can't remove it unless I stay after hours which won't be happening anytime soon.

I am getting the impression that Pepperz might be right. I think the Socket Magix might work very similar to the Netports comport redirector. It might be possible that WinSPM is able to detect that it is not a true comport or Socket Magix and blocking it's use.

Anybody have the hacker spirit and know how to check this out or know of any other forums to post to? I can't be the only person in the world trying to do this.

MerlinMan I spelled checked this one just for you. Now you can only pick on my fragmented and run on sentences. What can I say I'm A lover not a writer. :)

OK, you're serious, here's what you can do, that is feasible: Find an slow, ugly, or otherwise useless computer with a NIC. Load WinSPM on it, and PC Anywhere, or Radmin (Cheaper, better). Then run the WinSPM remotely. That is a little like the DuVoice, but without the cost.
