Trying to connect a PIX 501 to a netopia DSL modem. We have a static IP, I tried a static IP setting on the PIX with no luck. I contacted SBC and they said we do not do PPPoE. Current config of network is
internet----netopia modem-----netopia router---lan
I want to replace the router with the PIX
thank you in advance for any help

I don't understand why you want to replace the router with a PIX?

Do you only have only have one subnet behind the "router"? A PIX cannot route traffic, it only reads the destination and source per Access-list..you lose the routing capablilties as PIX only tracks what the source and destination IP addresses are.

Please be aware that PIX do not redirect traffic, it just opens traffic for a destination and source hosts.

What model of Netopia Router are you currently using?

You need to set the Netopia up in Bridge mode.

I don't understand why you'd use the Netopia as a bridge when the PIX will not route? Are you not still required to have a router as a DCE device?

Our setup is quite simple at our business...

Internet ->-> Netopia DSL Router ->-> PIX ->-> LAN
