Hi all, here's my problem. I have a remote user with a notebook system that all of a sudden has no network connectivity. He has sent me the machine, it has a built-in 3com nic and a pccard nic each configured for dhcp, each appears to connect (1 at a time) but ipconfig shows autoconfig ip address and I can't ping a damn thing. Looking at services shows netlogon failed to start and when I try to start it manually I get an error 5737, source netlogon with the text:

WSAStartup cannot function at this time because the underlying system it uses to provide network services is currently unavailable.

If I configure a nic with static ip addressing info, I can ping hosts and network neighborhood shows machines in my 2k office domain but only if I open a secure channel to my dc with a "net use \\dcname\ipc$ /user:domain\administrator *".

Any ideas, this guy is screwed unless I can fix this and I don't want to have to wade through the machine to save his data and then whack it and do a fresh install. Thanks and many load hosannas to whoever can assist........jeff

Hey, figured this one out myself and wanted to pass along the info for all to enjoy. Some rotten foistware (Webhancer, Newdotnet, etc) found it's way onto my users's machine (wonder how that happened ;-) You can get the skinny here

Grab Lsp-Fix from this page, run it with the options it suggests and reboot. later bros......

BTW, I also discovered that netlogon shouldn't run if the machine has not joined a domain, mine had not. Happy trails little buckeroos........

I had a user today that couldn't get their network drives. I logged onto their pc to see if it was profile issue but I couldn't get the network drives either. Although you could still ping the workstation. I Checked Event Viewer --> System and found error messages "netlogon service terminated with service specific error 5737".
Even after dropping workstation from domain & joining back, it wouldn't work. I installed & ran Spybot S&D which helped out because afterwards I was able to logon to the network & get my drives, as well as the user.
