I've been trying to set up VPN access to our office network, but have not been able to get it to work as yet.
I'm trying to use Windows XP's built in VPN client (SP2) to establish a VPN connection to a Netgear FVS318. The FVS318 is connected to an ADSL modem/router with a static IP address, and I've placed the FVS318 in a DMZ on the modem/router. I have previously been advised that this type of connection should be possible, but am starting to doubt whether that is in fact the case.
Does anybody know whether one has to buy and install Netgear's own VPN client software in order to establish a VPN connection to the FVS318? Or should it also be possible to use WinXP's built in client?
Anyway, I've been trying to establish a connection from my laptop using a dial-up connection and WinXP's built in VPN client. Looking at the VPN log on the router, the connection seems to get through to the router, but somewhere along the line it goes wrong. Here's a copy of the VPN log on the router:
