Just purchased a Netgear FVS318 VPN Firewall. When I plug it in at this site, sometimes I get no WAN connection, sometimes I get a Dynamic IP Address, sometimes it tells me I have a static IP Address. Using a Surfboard SB4100 to connect to Time Warner cable.

Netgear thought it was a bad WAN port, so I returned for a new product. Same result. It should get a Dynamic IP Address, but can never keep it for more than a minute. Tried at another site that uses Time Warner cable and a Surfboard SB4200 and works like a charm.

Netgear does not know of any known issues with that particular model, but I suspect it is the cable modem. Site that has problems with Netgear VPN works fine with D-Link router.

Has anyone else had issues with this?

SB4100 do not work with this product, you must take the route back to your ISP and have them exchange it. Works fine now.
