Please help,

I bought a Netgear DG834 router/modem about a month ago to replace the Dabsvalue router/modem I previously had.

I plugged it in, set it up and bingo, up and running in about 5 minutes.

The thing has been running fine ever since, not a single problem, until now.....

Last night, I powered it down. Ever since then, I seem to be getting problems with dns, bringing up webpages or even resolving my e-mail host. The only way I've found round the e-mail problem is to run an ipconfig /flushdns on my pc, then it works.

This is beginning to do my head in! If I bring up a webpage, I get the standard "Page cannot be found" error, when I refresh, it works! Bizarre.

Everything is setup fine, gateway and dns ip addresses are the netgear router on the dhcp settings and I can't see anything wrong.

Nothing has changed in the setup!

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Ross

My hard drive was flaking out so I've replaced it and it all seems to be working fine now, must've been related to the HD, not the router?

Any hoo, it's going now!

That is rather an odd sympton of a failing hard drive and I would be doubtful myself as to whether that was the cause.

That said, as you say, if it is working now then be thankful ;)

dear rossco,

i followed your suggestion doing the same thing as u did for the e-mail problem, i flashed the dns and now it works, but meantime i started my new connection on the 17 of june with bulldogs communication 2mb connection, with a netgear dg834g.
the onboard lan get his own ip, the adsl port get his ip, but it's slow on opening webpages and on download software, i did a speed test and on adskguide.org and comes out that i have a 56k connection, i set the mtu size to 1492, disabled port scan, enabled incoming and outgoing traffic on the firewall setting, i spoke with netgear and bulldog, reset the momed 3-4 times, upgrades to the last firmware on the netgear website v1.04.01, dchp in pppoe,
and then on the network connections in windows, why do i have the internet gateway? then i have used 2 more madsl modem: speedtouch usb alcatel, and bt voyagen 100usb, they connect to the server and get teh ip but when i go to open the webpagestakes long time.
can you maeby tell me something that i don;t know?
thanks renato
