Hello,

I have a netgear pcmcia card (default except the ssid has been changed to match) on my laptop, and it will connect for about 15 min or so, and then I need to go over to the other computer and change the broadcast channel, and then back to the original one (set at 11) in order to re-establish connectivity. I have no problems with this when its connected, but it just disconnects and is very annoying.

Thanks and stars to those that reply!

Thanks,
ben

It would be faster to right-click the tray icon, disable, right-click the tray icon, enable.

But in any case, what OS are you using, and what client software to handle the connection?

Interference seems unlikely on Channel 11 except from another Access Point.

If this is XP:

1. Remove Hotfix Q815485 through Control Panel, Add/Remove programs.

2. On the client, disable any 802.1x authentication

3. Make sure your SSID enabled Network is listed as a "Preferred Network" cf.
4. Set the adapter with the Configure option, Advanced, to a rate of 11mbs. instead of Auto.

Hello Evolutionary,

You mentioned being disconnected, is it like not picking an IP Address or was it losing signal coming from the router?

If you're losing signal, set also the card on the same channel but there are some WinXp that doesn't have channel on it and only RTS and Fragmentation Threshold; their corresponding values beside. I don't know what particular Hotfix should be added to it. Also check that the router's firmware, if it was BEFW11S4 Any Version make sure "NEVER" to use 1.45.3 or the one found in linksys site. It will only provide intermittent connection to both your wired and wireless computer. If it would be WRT54G and WRT55AG you could use any firmware even the one in Linksys site.

If you still have connection, meaning picking signals thru the router, set an IP address and DNS to the computer. Disadvantage, since it is set to static IP Address, you'll be needing to change it back to obtain it automatically if you'll be connecting to other access points. And as Bcastner provided make sure 802.1x is disabled.
