I have several Netfinity 7000's and 7000 M10's. I would really like to query the motherboard for it's temperature readings.

All of these servers have Redhat Linux installed on them. Is there a way to use the management adapter with linux to obtain said temp readings? Would I need a single box with Windows installed on it acting as the server pulling this data from the linux clients?

Is there a clientside app for this network management available?

Later this year IBM is to release a Version of IBM Director that will give you the temp readings on a Linux OS as long as the hardware will support temp readings. You may want to check their websight for more info on when this realease will ship. (It is free software as long as you run it on a IBM system).

sweet... thanks!

So would it be safe to say I should stop sifting through endless amounts of documentation?

on a second look, I would assume that I need Java installed... =o

You can access the ASM PCI Adapter installed in the 7000M10 directly from the network, provided you have configured an IP Address for the card. Otherwise, you can use a null modem cable to access through the card's serial port. This access is completely independent of the installed OS. Unfortunately, the Netfinity 7000 pre-dates this technology. A great resource for the older servers is the IBM RedBook "Netfinity Server Management" SG24-5208-01. Chapter 3 outlines all the management hardware in these boxes.
