Hi,
after more then two years I am starting this thread again, as unfortunately in all this past time I was unable to solve this Error 4311.
Try with MS forums, but all attempts were useless.Try to obtain this famous hotfix from MS and one forum specialized properly to help with hotfixes available only from MS, but without success.
To my experience this forum is the best and if I could not find assistance to solve this problem here, then is completely hopeless to try to solve it in another places.
Just to note, I am updated my XP wit SP-3, but this NetBT Eroor 4311 is always present.
To remainde you, hotfix to fix this error is kb 833747 .

Please list what NIC cards are installed, or have you also tried another NIC card (they are pretty cheap these days)...

have you TCP/IP v6 installed and active? if so deinstall or deactivate that setting (Network Connections)...

did you already update to IE7 (read in the other post that you had this problem only with IE6, not with FF or Opera)...

have you tried to deinstall the NIC and have XP reinstall it?
see:

>>>just a few things to check first<<<

Ben

"If it works don't fix it! If it doesn't use a sledgehammer..."

I have this NIC :
D-Link DFE-530TX PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter (rev.C)

I have TCP/IP installed.Using special MS tool I uninstalled this protocol and Windows Installed it again, but no changes re error 4311.

did you already update to IE7 – Yes I update to IE7 when it was launched.

Just to add one more information. My NIC card was installed before I passed to use ADSL wired connction and the same error appears when I used Modem 56K and also when using ADSL.

On MS forum under name “morog” I try many tips to solve this problem , but without success.
My PC is clean. No viruses or other malware to be a reason of that.

have you tried to deinstall the NIC and have XP reinstall it?
Don’t know if this is what you ask ,I ‘ve used MS 811259 tool to reset NIC , but this didn’t help.

I asked from hotfix forum hotfix kb833747 for 32bit x 86, but they seid this hotfix is included in SP-2 and if I have SP-2 then all is O.K. ( not true ).
Now I have Sp1, SP2 and SP3 installed, but the same error 4311 appears at every reboot.

re I have no Adapters under a/m string

Hi,
From a while struggling to resolve NetBT Error 4311 shown after each boot in my Event Viewer/System.
Try with many modes to solve it , but since now without any significant result.
On the net found following:

"This issue can occur if the RAS or NDISWAN component is corrupted. The
problem can occur after removing some 3rd party program such as AT&T
dial up program because the uninstallation program may not be designed
very well. To troubleshoot this issue, please perform the following
steps.

1. Remove Modem driver from the Device Manager.

- Right click My Computer and select Properties.

- Click on Hardware, Device Manager. Click on + sign by modem, right click and
uninstall modem.

2. Delete the dial up connections and remove 3rd party RAS related
program if any.

3. Run the attached file to install RArepair.exe, then run RArepair.exe to
reinstall RAS components. Reboot.

4. Reinstall Modem driver and the 3rd party dial up program if it is
required by your ISP.

5. Recreate the dial up connection and check if the problem is resolved."

This not worked for me.

The difference between previous situation and now is :
-RAS Async Adapter was disconnected from the computer, before
-RAS Sync Adapter is shown with yellow circle and exclamation singe inside and after click on device ,there is message:
"The device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device (Code 31).-now
Try also to complete uninstall RAS Sync Adapter but Windows don't allow this:
"Failed to uninstall the device from the system. This device may be required to boot up the computer"
NetBT error 4311 appear again in EV.
Try also to disable device, disabled it, but on the next boot, the same Error message appear again in the EV/System.
The basic question is why Windows cannot load the driver required for this device ( Code 31).
I guess the area of the factors who provoke this error message is much more smaller then before and if we succeed to solve this problem of driver loading, then problem will disappear for ever.

Yes, I check the registry ,nothing wrong found.

Device manager shows yellowed RAS Async Adapter

Some very old articles but they may be worth checking.

Event ID 4119 and 4311 After Removal of Remote Access Service

Event IDs 4307 and 4311 Occur After Disabling WINS Bindings

Check the details of "asyncmac.sys" in C:\Windows\System32\drivers, it is probably a Hidden and System file, so both options in Folder Options/ View must be set for you to see it.

My details are Version 5.1.2600.5512, Size is 14.0KB.

Go into Recovery Console, use the ListSvc command and make sure "asyncmac.sys" is set as a Manual start and not Boot or something else.

How to install and use the Recovery Console in Windows XP

@linney,
Thaks so much m'8, as usual your posts are more than usefull.
Read abt RAS Async Adapter and at the end as conclusion is "ignore it"
Check the details of "asyncmac.sys" in C:\Windows\System32\drivers and found my diver is identical as your.
Try to install Recovery Console, but failed, resecivin message:
"Error reading information from netmap.inf.
Setup cannot continue"
As I have updated my OS to SP3, inserted CD with Windows XP SP3 ( sleepstreamed), but failed.Browsing the CD found folder i386\winnt32.exe , but this not solve the problem.
Why cannot install Recovery Console I have no idea.
For this cannot check using the ListSvc command if "asyncmac.sys" is set as a Manual start and not Boot or something else.
Just to remember you I had a/m Error 4311 after have done Repear (in place)in 2004, of my XP Pro SP2 when my connection was only dual-up Modem 56k .
Please help me to install Recvery Console ( if possible) to check what you suggest.
Once again thanks a lot for your assistance and help.

Recovery Console error.

Recovery Console installation: "error reading information from netmap.inf"

JSI Tip 6363. When you attempt to install the Recovery Console, you receive 'error reading information from netmap.inf'?

That earlier link via Google didn't resolve correctly, let me take this opportunity to correct it.

Check the Regstry and for Device Path data is correct....
%SystemRoot%\inf
Try again to instal Recovery Console but resceived the same: "error reading information from netmap.inf"
Guess this happend because I have SP3.
Meanwhile try to Repear (in place ) Using sleepstreamed XP SP3 CD, but at the end instead to boot in Normal Mode, computer boot in Safe Mode and if try to boot in Normal Mode , computer again boot in Safe mode with statement that something was not correct during instalation.
I am afraid all this comes from SP3.
Later on will see what I can do for this RAS Adapter using your last link.
Thank so much linney.

Is the CD that you are loading Recovery Console from, the same Service Pack version that is installed on the machine?

Are you trying to install Recovery Console on your hard drive or just running it from the CD?

Can you repair with SP2, or clean install with SP2, we seem to be going backward at the moment, and a long way from your original fault.

Have a look at this thread, especially the notes on a Parallel Install, but also the other bits and pieces, it might give you a few ideas to experiment with.

Cannot logon to winxp...losing lots of valuable documents
thread779-975236

The CD is from the same Srvice Pack i.e. SP3.
I try to install Recovery Console from the CD and seccond solution after failing as described before, automatically change to load from MS then install and runn, but also this failed, showing:
" INF file txsetup.sif is corrupted or missing, status 18.
Setup cannot continu, press any key to exit" or Cannot complete the Windows XP Setup Wizard.
Try to uninstall SP3 , but result was a catastrofic one, demaged Grafic Card install and many others things.
For Parallel Install have no enough place in my HD.
Please let me know if there is any other way to check if "asyncmac.sys" is set as a Manual start and not Boot or something else.

Checking this Registry Key should provide the same information as was obtainable via the Recovery Console. There is no need for me to state that if you cannot load the Recovery Console, then there underlying serious problems with your machine.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\AsyncMac the value for "Start" is 3 (Hexadecimal)

What does the Registry tell you about the start value for your service?

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ THE SERVICE NAME @ Start

For example, 00000002=Automatic, 00000003=Manual, 00000004=Disabled

Here is another key which has details about asyncmac

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4D36E972-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0009

Check Registry Keys in my Registry
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\AsyncMac the value for "Start" is 3 (Hexadecimal),
is set equaly.
For HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4D36E972-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0009 ,
created screenshot ,but dont't know how to atach it here, or send to you to check it.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ AsyncMac@ Start, is 00000003

Forget about HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4D36E972-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0009, I was in Vista at the time so that will have no relevance to XP.

I checked in XP for the equivalent reference, found at (copied and pasted from my XP),

For what it is worth you can compare yours with mine, but I doubt we have the same Networking hardware, so it might be a futile exercise just comparing. The only reason I mention the key was because it involved Asyncmac, and even asyncmac may not be related to your problem, if you have it and it is starting correctly?

What I'd do if I was in your position is purchase an extra hard drive, put XP on it as a dual boot, either SP3 or not, and do my troubleshooting in a clean environment to determine if you are seeing hardware or software problems causing that original error message. You don't have to activate XP for 30 days too.

If any second install is error free it is easy enough to get your data and settings (if you want them) from one drive to another.

I am posting my Reg values, as you said they are different, but you will better then I make comparison , if ther is any sence to do it.

Seems that I have only few alternatives:
-To return to SP 2 and then try to effectuate "Repear" ( in place ) and after that ( if succseed ) update to SP3
-To effecuate "Clean" install over egzisting XP , but in thet case what I can expect re Activation ( I have legal XP Pro )
- To ignore this yellow signe and contine as it is now.

I feel prezent situation as one chalenge and cannot beleive there is no solution to fix this Error.

What yellow sign? Have you errors in Device Manager?
Doing a clean install of XP (over existing partition of XP) would not be an Activation problem, people do it all the time as a matter of routine.

You are taking me in to an area I am not able to give advice on, the information in the Registry Key of yours doesn't mean much to me, and I don't see mention of Asyncmac. This link (copy and paste it) might help you understand what is in there?

Modems Not Listed Under RRAS Ports

Please look my post from 30 May 08 8:26 where I wrote about yellow sign in my Device Manager over RAS Async Adapter.
"-RAS Sync Adapter is shown with yellow circle and exclamation signe inside and after click on device ,there is message:
"The device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device (Code 31).-"

Sorry about missing your earlier post, this thread is getting too long, or more likely I am getting to old and forgetful.

This link has a link to a RArepair tool. Have you ever tried running that tool to see if it can fix your error?

Subject: SBS2003 RRAS - client PCs cannot access Internet

While we are on to tools, have you tried the more general Winsock fix mentioned in this thread?
WinXP Connectivity Issues
faq779-4625

No problem m'8 .
In the same post I wrote also abt rarepair.exe tool and what were results after runnig it.
Difference between previous and actual situation is -before my RAS Async Adapter was disconnected from my computer, now is connected, but with yellow sign on it..
Yes, I try Winsock, fix but famous NetBT error 4311 appear again and again......
There is something abt "netsh" in Command Prompt, but when try to execut > netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt < always receive answer that syntax for this command is wrong
