Hello eXperts !

Is it possible to obtain th netbios name from a windows machine with its IP
I am under redhat8.0, i know an IP but I want the netbios name...

If you have samba installed try this:

nmblookup -A ipaddress

You also can use WINS from samba.

nbtscan might be another option...

You can also add wins to the line in /etc/nsswitch.conf that says hosts.


hosts files dns wins

This will use wins if dns fails.
