We are doing some DR testing and documentation, and I was wondering if anyone had some information or documents that would say what I need for a DR with Netbackup.

Suppose I lost everything but my backup tapes. Could I snag another LTO4 system from dell that is identical to ours and throw Netbackup 6.5 on it and restore our tapes?

If not, what else do I need?

Yep - reinstall NBU and recover the catalogues.

Its covered in one onr manuals, can't remember which one at the moment I'm afraid.

Would I need my same license numbers or could I purchase new ones and they would work fine?

You could call Symantec or your reseller and get a temp license key that would last a month if you didn't have your real key handy. If you use the Symantec licensing portal, you can look up your keys at anytime. One thing we did is just export the keys from NetBackup and email them in an attachment to a gmail and yahoo email set up be myself that the other backup admins have access to also. This way is quick and painless. This email is also used to receive the emails sent from the catalog backups so that all our recovery info is in one place.

Hope this helps.

The Netbackup Troubleshooting Guide has DR procedures.

The only thing you would need to ensure is that your hostname of your Master is the same as the previous "lost" server.
Doesn't matter about the license keys. As long as you have the same features etc and the same version of NetBackup (including MP releases), you should be able to recover.
