Is there anyone else using Arcserve to backup there Netapp Filers? We are using Arcserve 11.5 NAS option using NDMP to backup our Netapp NAS3050 on 7.0.3.
This is working well at home.. and we have cut our backup times into a 1/3 of the time it took before using NDMP.. and we have restored many times successfully here. However when we go to to test Disaster Recovery at IBM's Recovery site...we have had numerous problems.
Curious to see who else might have this configuration and there experiences with Disaster Recovery testing.

1. Acrserve 11.5 supports NDMP and you are successfully using it.

2. You have sucessfully restored many times at your location.

3. The DR test at IBM's recovery site fails.

It sounds like there are issues with the DR steps or the setup at the IBM recovery site. So,

1. What are you backing up?

2. What are the DR steps?

3. What is the configuration at the IBM recovery site?

Thanks for responding.
IBM site does apparently have issues....
We backup several a snap of VOL0 of our NAS and we backup
vol0 of our SAN which includes several SQL database backups.

DR steps are
IBM will have the server setup with Windows 2003 sp1 all the networking is done by them. We are not connecting to a like tape library there... but with same type of Tape drives.
We install arcserve from scratch onto the server... we use a sql database as our arcserve database. We can see the filers and add them to Arcserve as well as the tape drives. But its like when we do the restore... it never is really able to restore...
one thing we have not tried is to see if Netapp can restore without arcserve. Next test if neccessary we will.

Here it home we have our library, each filer, Backup server and several other servers connected directly to a brocade switch on the same fabric.

At IBM they have each piece including each tape drive and the robot arm connected to a device called Fiber manager. They havent been very forth coming on what this device does... but they split each device into there on zone. Which caused us to not work at all ...we finally got them to put the backup server, filers, tape drives and library into same zone and we could actually use the tape drives...

I know that there is something wrong with the config at IBM. (in fact we have a call in with them to discuss tomorrow) but I want/need to know if others have problems with arcserve/netapp during Disaster Recovery?

VOL0 sounds like a traditional volume with LUNs carved out for NAS and SQL. If you're doing an NDMP copy to tape of the .lun files, you should be able ndmp copy from tape the same files.

That is the theory. We have done that successfully at home... however yet to do it at IBM's DR site. Which is why I asked if anyone else was successful in recoverying their NETAPP filers with Arcserve at a DR site... and if so what company do they use?
