Hello all:

How do I control W2k server time on workstations when they connect to the server so that workstations cannot change time on their system?

Are there services that must be running on the server? I have read thread:96-488150 where following is suggested:

net time /setsntp:ntp2.usno.navy.mil
net stop w32time
w32tm -s
net start w32time

For workstations, I have read reference of logging on an admin and setting NET TIME /SET but what happens when a non-admin user logs in? The workstations are all Windows 98. Can I place the NET TIME /SET in AUTOEXEC.BAT

Thanks for your guidance

You can put the net time command in the netlogon of the server and then reference the server as the place to update the time from. This way all the computers in your building are on the same time.
Time will be updated at the workstation each time the user logon on.
ie:
NET TIME \\Server01 /SET /Y

To prevent users from changing the system time you can use Group Policies. There is a setting named "Change the system time." that you can adjust.

The just use the logon script procedure as you described above.

Moreover, if you are using NT, check out the SNTP client in teh Resource kit, for Win9x etc use some shareware.

Best Regards
