Hi all,

I got an error message when trying to join a windows 2003 server to a domain.

When I checked the Net logon service on the client, I found out that the Net Logon on it (Client) is not started.

I then change the start up type to automatic and click START botton to start. I got this error message:

The Netlogon service on the local computer started and then stoped. Some services stop outomatically when the have no work to do, for example, the Performance log and alert services"

I also restarted the machine to see if my changes will be validated, it gives same error message.

What should I do to make this service run automatically.

I will appreciate your contribution.

Thanks.

Leke

The Netlogon service depends on the Workstation service so check this is running also.

Any events in the event log?

Thanks,

The workstation service is running.

This is the snap shot of event viewer"

Event ID: 7024
Source: Service Control Manager
The Net Logon service terminated with service-specific error 3095.

Event ID: 3095
Source: NETLOGON
This Windows NT computer is configured as a member of a workgroup, not
as a member of a domain. The Netlogon service does not need to run in
this configuration."

From EventID.Net

Event 3095
As per Microsoft, this error occurs when the Netlogon service has been configured to start automatically on the stand-alone server. The Netlogon service should not be configured to start automatically on a server that is not a domain member. Configure the Netlogon service so that its startup type is set to Manual. See M182720.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the Prompt mail.

I have done what you said again and again, but the problem is still there.

I will appreciatea ny further suggestion on this.

Thanks.

Thanks for the reply.

When I tried to join windows 2003 server to windows 2003 server domain, I encounter this error message.

The error message says"

"The following error occured attempting to join the domain "nccorp": The specified server cannot perform the requested operation.

However I was able to join Windows 2000 prof to the same domain.

Can we say that Window 2003 server can not be joined to domain?

I will appreciate your contribution.

Thanks.

I know you have had some strange problems on your end so lets get some facts straight.

First what are the DC names? What OS are the DCs?
What is the name of the server you are trying to join?

Are you looking to make the new 2003 server a DC? If the other DCs are 2003 did you run Forestprep and Domainprep?

Problems joining the domain are almost always related to DNS being misconfigurted on a NIC. Make sure the new server is pointing to your DC for DNS and does nto have any ISP DNS configured on it.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Regards,

Mark

Thanks Mark,

My problem has to do with the firewall that is enabled on the domain controller.

I've been able to join the server to domain as soon as disable the firewall.

Thank you very much for your support. Your solution has grately helped me.

I also want to say a big thank you to all the people that contributed to the thread

May Gob bless you all.

Leke
