Hello all,
I installed the .NET framework on my server and I cannot seem to run any .net files (.aspx for example) remotely. I can see the webpages locally, however, everytime I open it in a browser outside of the server, I receive the following message:

Server Error in '/' Application.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Runtime Error
Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.

Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This <customErrors> tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off".

Any ideas as to why this might be happening?

Try doing as it says and setting the customErrors mode off. You should then get a more detailed message. If you post that one, hopefully I'll be able to give you some help. That'l do donkey, that'l do

I made the change you suggest, but now I am unable to do anything locally as well. It shows the HTML content of any page but does not show any ASP.NET components like lables or textboxes.

I don't know what to do. Half the time I just get a blank page.

If you installed IIS after .Net this thread may help you.

I installed IIS a while before I installed the .NET framework. I even upgraded it to the Service Pack 2 that just came out and still nothing. The server is Windows 2000 Server running IIS 5.0 with the latest version of the 1.0 framework (SP2).

*scratches head

hmm Did you make sure to compile your pages before viewing them. (Note saving them doesn't compile them you have to call the compiler explicitly.) That'l do donkey, that'l do
