HI,

(I have WinXP sp2)

my Nero program now fails when I try to burn DVDs. I have ruined at least 8 of them and different sorts too. It was all working 3 weeks ago and I do not even recall installing anything recently. Anyways, I re-installed all Nero software but to no avail. Today my computer tells me there is no cd inserted when there is (a real pressed one too). Either my drivers are bad or the unit itself. Where can I get new drivers as they did not come with the DVD unit.

Hi,

it is an LG Ultra Speed (IDE) - I am afraid I cannot get you more info as I am now not at home but in the office.

OK, you said you tried "re-installing Nero", but did you actually go through a full uninstall and reboot first?

Also, you do not need to install drivers yourself for optical devices such as DVD and CD-ROM drives. They have built-in firmware which Windows reads and installs driver information from automatically.

Can you think of anything that you might have done to the PC right before the problem started (installing new software, hardware upgrades, etc)?

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all your assistance - I have fixed the problem yet the cause of it is one of two things right now. 1) I replaced the burner with another one and 2) I found there was a dvd drive emulator which my son probably installed to play a DVD game - I had a new F: drive which I had not noticed... I removed this and now I can burn again - so one of the two did the trick. I will re-test the old burner again just to see if it is ok as it was fairly new.

Brett,

Yeah, I'm familiar with that problem. There's a popular piece of burning & mounting software called Alcohol 100%. It's the one that creates the virtual drive (in your case F:).

My guess is that it was somehow conflicting with Nero and removing it is probably what solved your issue.
