Negative zero value in Oracle fields?

Hi,
I wonder if anyone knows whether it is possible to enter a -0 value in Oracle fields? The field in question currently is a float field. SOL

For the sake of inserting, yes you can, but when you select the inserted value, it will be returned as 0, +0.00 if you specify the format like 'S990.90'
 
Zero is neither positive or negative, so yes, you can force it in, but Oracle is going to laugh at you and discard the "-". Terry M. Hoey
 
I appreciate this, it just would have been nice. I have a tricky record set where some zero's should be considered "negative" and some "positive" to establish what should be done with the data. No matter I'll find another way. If Oracle laughs at me again though I'll slap it. SOL
