Ok heres the Deal.. !! Time to upgrade and Add!!! My current setup is a 2000 Domain with 2 DC's. I just purchased 2 2003 boxes, and 2 copys of 2003 to update my current 2 2000 boxes. Right now I have my master doing everything Term Server, DNS, Server, Print Server, and yes DC. What I want to do is get everything up to 2003 and add the two new boxes. so then I will have new (term server2003), new (SQL Server 2003), and old (2000 DC will be 2003 DC). My question is whats the best process. I've heard I don't want to upgrade my old installation I just want to wipe and start over... So whats the best way.. do i add my new servers to the domain, then make em a DC transfer all my stuff over and then reformat old box.. Or should I just leave the new boxes off for now and upgrade my server to 2003 <--- which its my live server so i'm scared to try to do in place upgrade... basically up for suggestions... please let me know..

well I agree, but my problem here is... that the one I want to be the DC is the DC now. To add my Tserv box I would have to make it DC then depromote the old win2k box redo it then promote it back and then uninstall the DC from my tserv box. I'm trying not to clutter of my Tserv box, but to get things like i want looks like i'm gonna have to move everything to it for time being then back when i get the old box formated to 2003.. what ya think?

how much trouble is that gonna be to move my DC to my new box and then move it back when the old one is formatted??

not gonna be trouble, jsut need to ensure all dcpromo's down well, and that the fsmo roles are transferred

almost got a paragraph there :)

Promote one of the new servers as the DC then, move all the server roles. DCpromo the old DC to remove from the domain and then wipe the OLD DC and reinstall it with 2k3, joing the domain, promote it and swap the roles back over to the newly installed server.

Phew.

It should be straight forward if you want to use the old DC and keep it as the DC.

Cheers
