Hi eveyone,
I am new in here, this is a very informtive site for me.

I will be taking CCNA routing and switching exam (640 - 607) next week. I got couple of questions need to clarified urgently!

I hope those of you who did the exam can give me some guideline. my questions are:

1) For the catalyst switches, the commands for 1900 and 2900 are quite different,
e.g. when assigning a port to VLAN 2

vlan-membership static 2 (for 1900)
switchport access vlan 2 (for 2900)

which one we should use in the real exam (simulation questions)? does it specify in the exam which model of switch we using? or by default we always us 1900 commands?

2) the commands for routers, the old version OSI and the new version OSI (12.0) are different,

e.g. copy files
copy running-config startup-config (old version)

copy systme:running-config nvram:startup-config (new OSI version 12.0)

in the exam, if a simulation question is asking this, should I put the old version command of new version command or either? again, does the question specificlly ask for which version of commands?

many thanks for your help !!

For the switching commands, they will ask for a command for a specific switch. Most likely, both commands will be present in the choices so make sure you pay attention to the question!!

As for the router IOS, the last time I took a Cisco test that had the 'fill in the blank' type questions, they gave you a word bank. And they tell you to type the command exactly as it appears in the word bank. I don't remember seeing old and new commands that performed the same function.

HTH,
Tara

Hmmm! The book I've been reading (for 640-507) only has the first command for copying the config files into startup. But CCNA sites say that the newer test has the same content as the 640-507... But I didn't even know there was a newer IOS. Guess I'd better look into that one before I get myself into trouble. Thanks.
