OK...so I made a .mov file and it plays fine if I click my link that I made to the movie. But what about .wmv files?

Do they have to stream from somewhere? I just want to click the link and play the .wmv in the proper player...providing they have it.

What do I do?

I tried just a link to the file but I get a screen full of text. Both on a MAC and a PC. I tried making a .asx file as I read somewhere but I blew it.

I don't have enough knowledge to do this one.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

If the server spit out the WMV file as text then this is a matter of defining how the file is served at the server. If you have admin access to the server, set the filetype so that the server perceives it as a video file, not the default text filetype.

Interesting. I know my boss has access...but I don't know that he KNOWS how to do that!

I'll check it out. Thanks.

It also does it if I try and view it locally. Is that related? Or does it HAVE to come from the server to work properly?

All I am doing is a typical link to the file...<a href=&quot;filename.wmv&quot;>

Thanks for your help!

u can also try embed:
<embed src=&quot;filename.wmv&quot;></embed>

Known is handfull, Unknown is worldfull

Since It also does it if I try and view it locally there may be more to the matter than your server config.

If the embed tag from vbkris does not work, then it is certain that your own computer is screwy.

Hah! I know the thing is screwey anyway...I need a G5!

Jimoblak...it has been a while. I quit coming here because of an arguement with an ass clown a while back. But as always I appreciate your help.

Your above suggestion worked flawlessly as expected!

My boss hopped on the server and adjusted the MIME type and it streamed just fine.

* Thanks so much as always for your help!

OK...spoke too soon!

Works great on the MAC...but the PC has audio and no video. Gonna go mess with codecs and versions of WMP and see if that helps.

Looks like you need WMP 7.01 or higher according to some stuff I read.

Worked just fine after the update.

...but those are the funniest kind of clowns!
