Hello, thanks for looking.

I am not too computer literate so a simplified explination would be much apreciated! And I shal try and be as descriptive as i can.

I am running a computer (comp1) on XP through my network card on blueyonder broadband connection. Another computer (comp2) in the house (the one that im on, currently connecting through the broadband box) was networked to my pc. Then out of the blue the internet connection on my computer stopped working, i was advised to format my hard-drive and start from scratch, so i did, with a fresh instalation of windows XP, but i still have the same problem, whenever i connect my pc to the broadband box the box flashes as if it was sending data and the computer picks up the connection by telling me it has connected but will not alow me onto the internet. whenever i direct connect comp2 to the broadband box, it works like a charm yet when i do the exact same thing with comp1... i get nothing! Here is a picture of some stuff i think might help...

I tried to set up the local network between the two computers and it also picks up comp2 connecting to it. but both pc's wont connect to the net. whenever i direct connect comp2 to the broadband box, it works like a charm

Please if you can help then i will be VERY thankfull.

The 169.254.x.y IP address is an auto configured one that gets assigned when you cannot contact the DHCP server to get a public IP. Talk to your ISP, they may be able to help.

I tried using that tool to fix the problem but it didnt work, nothing seems to have changed. Im going to call my ISP sometime through the week, is that the only thing i can do? If anyone has any other ideas then please help. If you need any other infomation then i'll try my best to explain.

If you read the last paragraph of my FAQ, there is a link to a Microsoft KB article on how to restore your TCP/IP service entries.

In addition, consider the possibility of the removal of an Antivirus of Firewall product as leaving an orphan entry behind:
Final note is to use Device Manager and uninstall the network adapter, and let the New Hardware Wizard rebuilt it.

I read the last bit of your post bcast, and did everything it said to do, but i still have the same problem. I completely formated and reinstaled windows again last night hoping that it might work but it didn't. Thanks for all the help guys, i guess ill just call Telewest Blueyonder up and see what they say.

They sorted it, im replying from the working connection. thanks again for your help.

They needed to send some info to my modem at their end. They talked me through all the stuff i had already tried, i was just nice and didn't wanna interupt him, haha. But then after i did all he said and told him it wasnt working he said "i'll just send some info to your modem and switch your computer off for 3 minutes" and hey presto... it was working.

Thanks for all your help guys.
