My customer's 3300 MXe running MCD 4 became damaged due to electrical issues in their premises (motherboard and IDE Hard Drive). I got a brand new 3300 MXe III runinng MCD 6.0 which I tried to downgrade to MCD 4 to then restore a backup of the database into it but when I tried to do a full install I got a message saying that the hardware would not support the software. So I decided to try to restore the database to the new software after spending all day getting their SWA up to date and transferring the licenses to the new hardware ID and updating them to MCD 6.0 The restore failed because the Directory on MCD 4 needed to be converted to SDS (or something to that effect).

How can I restore this customer's database on the new PBX so I can get them up and running? I don't care about the directory being accurate or not.

Any suggestions are welcome.

You need 4.0 sp4 specifically for the mxe III

Is that the load you tried?

If not, do so

Otherwise you need to find an older system to use as an intermediate

I doubt it was SP4. I am going to try to download that sw version and install it on the MXe III.
Thank you for the suggestion.

Thanks for the helpful tips. If the 4.0 SP4 install works, I am sure I will have to upgrade to MCD 5.0 before I can get to 6.0

You have ton install 4.0SP4, migrate your database, then upgrade directly to 6.0.

Upgrade directly to 6 from 4.0SP4

The software I had tried before unsuccessfully was SP3.

I downloaded MCD 4.0 SP4 (load 10.0.4.26) and installed it on the MXe III successfully after updating the licenses to 4.0 in AMC. My backup restored nicely on the new hardware and my customer was up and running again. I decided I will upgrade to 6.0 maybe next week. I just needed to get them up and running for now.

Thank you for enlightening me with your knowledge.

Keep in mind that with MCD 4 you need to go through the process to change to GDM database. That is why kwbmitel suggested staying at MCD 4. A MCD 4 datasave that was not taken from a GDM formatted database would not have restored in MCD 6.

An apple a day keeps the doctor away. Anyone else and you need to throw it harder.

Is this a standalone system or part of a cluster? If it's a standalone, the migration is simple. If it's part of a cluster you've got a bit of homework to do first to make sure the migration doesn't fall on its face.
