Whilst trying to clean a virus, my "friend" renamed his Winlogon.exe file (thankfully he didn't delete it) on a WIN Xp box (NTFS drive) - No XP CD - just an image disk and we do not want to delete the data. I need a utility that I can boot from a floppy to DOS and rename the zzzWinlogon.exe files back - I've found readers but nothing that will allow me to write to the drive (except for a program that costs $200) - I can't beleive there isn't something free.

PS. I really was a freind - not me.... ;-)

There is a program called "NTFS DOS" I think it can also write to the drive.

Thanks for that - I tried one - I think it was NTFS Dos and I could only write to a floppy. I was able to get a prompt by creating some XP boot disks. It was a little clumsy but it worked.
