Need to remove every instance of a colour from an image or layer

I need to remove all instances of a colour from an image, in this case its 'black'.

Thanks for your help but I only have PhotoShop 5

Is there any other way to do it?

The magic want leaves alot of the colour left over, I want to completely remove the colour.
