Hi, not sure if that is the correct forum.

I have 2 laptops A(windows 7 home edition) B (windows 7 Professional)
A needs to be able to see B in order to connect to Quickbooks.
A can see the laptop B but is not able to access it error message is: Windows cannot access\\B
check the spelling fo the name, otherwise there might be a problem with your network to try to identify and resolve....

The name is correct I triple checked, I can access Laptop A from Laptop B without problem.

Any Ideas how i can connect Laptop A to Laptop B so we an share Quick Books

thanks

Since B is Professional, its much more tied down than A.

Make sure the user From A exists in B as a valid user with access to the B's shared folders.

That brings to mind a second question, is anything shared on B for A to access?

With that said, I don;t use Quickbooks, so not sure how that will help you share it.

Hi, thanks for your reply. To be honest I have no idea where to do add the user:
user From A exists in B as a valid user with access to the B's shared folders
Can you help?

Once I can access the laptop then I have to do some file mapping/sharing etc for quickbooks.
I can see the Laptop B from A but can't access it.

Thanks again

What Phil means is you need to add the user from A to B in Account management. Easiest way is to click start and type "user account" in the search bar and choose add new user account. Setup the account with a password for A. Also make sure file sharing is enabled, and then right click the folder for quickbooks, and choose share, and setup the share.

rclarke is correct.

Have you looked at the Network and Sharing Center on both machines and made sure that all the sharing options are correctly set? Look under "Change advanced sharing settings".

Is any Firewall blocking your access?

Hi thanks for the information, I finally had time to do it but it will not work, i am still getting the same error message,
here are the steps I try to connect to laptopB

right click on start
go to windows explorer
double click on the Network Icon from LaptopB and the the message comes up

windows cannot access\\laptopB
check the spelling of the name. Otherwide there might be a problem with yur network To try to identify and resolve network problems click: DIAGNOSE
Error Code 0x80070035
the network path was not found

I tried diagose, but it can find anyting, when I go to windows explorer under Network I do see LaptopB

I am clueless, I checked my firewall setting, I checked under network advanced setting, everything is turned on to allow the computer to see the other one, on both laptop A and B?

any other ideas?

If you test both machines from within Safe Mode with Networking are they able to access each other?

See what others have done to solve that error.

Hi, thanks , yes both are wireless and yes sharing is allowed on the router.
I can see the laptop but can't access it - so strange.

I need to get this working, it is a back up solution.

You still haven't said anything about the users existing on both laptops.

Also what if anything is shared on laptop B, and what its permissions are.

And third just to rule it out, turn the firewall on laptopB completely off.

Hi, the users exist on the laptops,

I have not turned off the firewalls yet, I will try that next.

thanks
