i tried just using the ip address of my computer as a name, if the computer requesting the web page was my own, the counter wouldn't +1...

problem, my computer's ip address changes periodically, and that makes the idea a bad one.

any other ideas? the last resort would be to set a cookie on my machine and just test in perl to see if that cookie exists...

-help?

No easy way I know of to do that - why not just keep track of the number of times you(your machine) go to that web page, and just subtract that from the hit count. It doesn't seem worth it to me to set a cookie on every client machine, just so the web page will know if you are the one requesting the page. Hardy Merrill

Hi,

why don't you try using cookies ??? Just write a little script that sets a cookie on your system. Then, in the counter script simply look for a cookie. If a cookie exists do not increment, else increment...

Hope that helps

BioWEB had the same idea that occurred to me. Instead of setting a cookie on every computer, just set a cookie on your own. Tracy Dryden
