We have the Valcomm paging system in our warehouse installed and works properly. I need to have a phone ring through the speakers when it is dialed. This is for an Axis door phone/video camera system. So when a delivery driver, etc ring the back door, I have it going to a SIP phone in the warehouse where they can press a sequence of buttons to open the door. The warehouse is big and the phone cannot be heard in all spots. So I have been tasked with ringing the phone through the paging system.

I tried to create an analog extension that is "X" ported and going to a coverage path that directs to a VDN/vector that dials my paging code. That doesn't work.

What is the best way to get this accomplished as per their request?

If the Axis door phone is already a SIP station, you can have SIP ringers registered as the same extension. There are models that get very loud. Algo is one manufacturer.

If that isn't satisfactory you can get a ring voltage relay and an MP3 player. An analog station triggers the relay which triggers the MP3 player. The MP3 player connects to the paging system. You will have to put it all in an enclosure (some assembly required) but you can get everything for under $100. I built one for a hospital that plays Brahms lullaby whenever a baby is born. It is connected to the music input on the paging system. Let me know if you are interested and I will supply a parts list.

I love the lullaby song when a baby is born. Awesome!

Yes I have looked at and have an Algo manual for a SIP Audio alerter on my desk. I was just hoping that I didn't need to go that route and could use the existing paging system since the speakers are all throughout the warehouse. The Algo alerter would have to be wired in a central location and sounds like a lot of lift work in the high warehouse ceiling.

I would be very interested in the MP3 setup you mention. It sounds like I can wire all this into the paging amp in my MDF and not have to worry about any speaker wiring in the warehouse. Thanks coolwhisper!

We used the following:
6.5x4.13x2.09 Plastic Enclosure
Robertsonic MP3 Trigger 2.4
MicroSD card (any size, you just need a wav file of the alert tone)
9 volt power supply
Modular Ring Relay CID2L
1/8' phono pigtail
Screw terminal strip

The instruction that come with the MP3 player are pretty clear. Wire the ring relay to one of the trigger inputs, put a wav file on the microSD card (phone ringing, submarine dive claxon, or whatever works best), name the audio file on the microSD card with the same number as the input you chose, plug the pigtail into the output and connect that to the paging system. I wired all the connection to the terminal strip and mounted that on the outside of the plastic enclosure. The wave file will restart for as long as there is ringing voltage.

Give me a shout if you have any issues. Good luck!
