Somehow during back up of hard drive I ended up with two operating systems. And during BIOS sequence I have to choose between Microsoft windows XP home edition or Microsoft windows XP home edition (2). How do I get rid of or disable the second OS. I have two hard drives. Please give detailed steps.

Thank you in advance.

1. Boot from the XP CD, and use the first R(epair) option to enter Recovery Console.
2. In Recovery Console:

bootcfg /Rebuild
fixboot c:
exit

Note: the first step will ask you to identify your XP installations. Select the first and do not add the second.

3. Boot into Safe Mode as Administrator.
. Disable System Restore
. Make certain that under Windows Explorer, Tools, Folder Options, View that you can view hidden files and folders
. Removing Windows XP Files
The following files are hidden files.

On drive D on which the second Windows XP is installed, delete the following files if they exist:
D:\Hiberfil.sys
d:\Pagefile.sys

Delete the following folders if they exist:
D:\Windows
D:\Program Files
D:\Documents and Settings

exit and reboot into Normal mode.

Try this .... right click MY COMPUTER...PROPERTIES....ADVANCED...STARTUP AND RECOVERY...SETTINGS... goto default op system, there you will find the times for a second system to display. You can also click edit and remove the op system you don't want under notepad ,be careful on which one you delete or mess with don't hit the wrong one.
