I am currently looking to convert a file to ASCII or EBCDIC.
Can I use the INSPECT-CONVERT or is there another/better method.

There is a free utility from Computer Associates which is called RCOPY. You can look-up their download site for the utility RCOPY.ZIP.

But of course, you can do it yourself in any COBOL program using the option in the FD CODE-SET is alphabet-name-1 and perhaps your COBOL compiler supports this.

If you handle binairy fields in your files, it is necessairy to do the conversion yourself or you should convert the file into readable format and a separate sign. After that you use RCOPY to convert in the pc environment.

where is that rcopy.zip file
I looked through cai.com and I could not find it.

GL
