I moved a Windows 2003 Server Primary Domain Controller from one premises to another and when I rebooted, I got an error message before the OS loaded -

Windows NT could not start because of an error in the software.
Please report this problem as :
load needed DLLs for kernel.
Please contact your support person to report this problem

I dont know the Directory Services recovery password, so I cant access the Recovery Console.

There is no backup Domain controller, so I cant login to the Domain

I tried a password reset disk, but it's for Windows 2000 Server

I'm tearing my hair out - can anyone help???

Thanks

You can get to the recovery console by booting from the WIndows 2003 Server CD and selecting the repair or recover option.

Unfortunatly, I dont have the password!

I've tried everything I can think of...

You just need the Administrator password not the Directory restore password to get into the recovery console.

Can you suggest a method that will allow me to overwrite the local Admin password - I've tried the local Admin password for all the Servers in that Domain (same password) and it doesnt work.

I only get three attempts and then it reboots...

Did you use the same password when you created your domain?
The DC password will be whatever you chose when you created the domain.

If all else fails, there are many password cracking tools available.

There have been reference to these in this forum.

Perhaps someone can post link or suggest a source.
