Hi all.

Just finished perusing the GW Solutions website concerning GWAVA. Now that I got their point of view, I'm really interested in what you fine folks (the REAL world) think of this product.

If it really does what it is purported to do, then it would be a worthwhile investment.

Thanks in advance for your input and comments.

Mark,

I'm with you, I would love to know what everyone thinks of it before I run out and purchase the product. It would be very nice if we could get an active demo program (maybe 30 days) and test it out but it looks like they don't offer a demo for it. My dilemma right now is I'm entertaining the idea about going with SurfControl's e-mail scanning software for about $10,000. If I can cut that down to $1,900 I could get some other luxury hardware my company is really needing. Of course they can't answer my questions on the Forum (they deleted my thread guess because it was named the same as another one) and they refuse to call me back so right now I'm not real happy with them, but if they can save me about $8,000 I would entertain the possibility of a purchase. Have you attempted to contact the company yet?

<nodding>

I had a voice mail this morning from them, but got their voice mail in return. Tough to get anyone anywhere today though so I can't start to complain yet. Think most ppl have started their holidays a bit early (and wondering why I didn't either).

Don't know if it's justified or not, but I did have a red flag go up when I found out I couldn't get a "true" demo version to test. The "demo" online looks like it was done by one of the sales staff's children for a class project and doesn't show anything about the product at all.

Anyway, I'll let you know anything I find out also.

Thanks again for your input and hope that others will share their positive/negative experiences with this product.

All,
Ran GWAVA for one day, almost 24 hrs to the minute before the abends started. Phone Tag with Tech Support around XMAS and I still do not know what it going to happen with it. I will let you know how things go once Tech Support points me in the right direction. I think decompression was the culprit.

Tom,

Thanks for letting us know, let us know what you find out. I am still trying to make my determination on this product and without a demo it makes it pretty hard....

I wrote an NLM which I think does most of what GWAVA does. It was originally for adding global disclaimers and now also blocks attachments, subjects and works with NLM-based virus scanners. I think it's usefule within its scope, and it's free to anyone who wants it. Download it at
It does *not* act like the robust e-mail scanners from MimeSweeper and SurfControl which analyze content and archive messages.

gw solutions seem to be a reseller, not the original software manufacturer.
A free 30 day demo of this product is available from

Beginfinite seem to be the manufacturer.
There was a TID posted in late december on Novell support web site relating to abends running this and another mail filter but the fix is already available and should not be a problem

Steve :)

I beg to differ. I called up The Messaging Architects for a demo and they told me that you can download a copy of their site at: Maybe it was just recently added? I was also told that I could get a maintenance plan and upgrade protection from them. I really like the content and attachmenet filtering options.

Search for GWAVA on the novell website and you will see that theyu say to use this.
