We are installing a new Partner system for a company that wants to keep the same extensions as they had from their old system. We need to set them up in the range of Extension 20-39. The problem is that we are only installing a Partner 509. Is there any way to give them the Extensions they want?

HELP!

Thanks.

Rocks are hard, and water is wet; that's just the way it is.

Partner extensions are hard coded on where the hardware is installed in the cabinet.

If your customer insists, you need to add a carrier and some modules.

Remember the impact of not having an Ext. 10 if they want voice mail as well - you're going to need to stick with Partner Messaging, NOT PC Card Mail.

TouchToneTommy; thanks for the response. As a follow up question, since they are using the Partner Messaging, is it possible to give them the range they want in the Partner Messaging so that if someone calls the auto-attendant and dials their old range (i.e. ext. 37) they get transferred to extension 17 and / or they leave a message in Mailbox 17. Of course internally they would have extension 17.

What do you think?

Hey TTT,

You got a patent on that response, or can I use it someday too?

Well, you could make mailboxes that are phantom senders, but the actual call would never get to the extension, the caller would always get voicemail.

Don't you end up with an overlap? If old 20 is new 10, then old 30 is new 20, etc.

What's the cost to add a 5-slot carrier, a couple of 012's, and set the Call Answer Service Opeator in the Messaging to ext. 20? Tell the customer that is the cost for hanging onto the old extension numbers.

As they grow, you can use up the stations on the 509.

(Rockspop - sometimes you simply can't change something, so that's my standard answer. Feel free to quote me!)
