I have a bunch of MLX-10D phones with the "sleepy sets" problem where they stop responding to the buttons unless disconnected for a while and re-connected. I have read this is caused by oxidization of the flex board and that replacements can be purchased for around $20. I ran a search on the internet and was only able to find two sources for these boards, and they were $40-$45 each.

I also read that the "sleepy sets" problem can be fixed by firmware upgrades for the 408 MLX, 008 MLX, and 016 MLX cards that are included on the Legend R7 V10 upgrade card.

Two questions: First, where can I purchase replacement flex boards at a good price? Second, is there any credibility to the claim that this problem can be helped by a firmware upgrade?

I have not heard the firmware issue. Sounds to go to be true. I have the mylar flex boards. How many do you need?

Well, I have 50 total phones, and I would estimate somewhere around 20-25% have this problem, so I need at least 10 just to scrape by. I don't expect this will be the last I see of this issue, so I would like to have more... perhaps 25. The number of extra I buy will ultimately be determined by how much they end up costing.

A equipment supplier called Triad...800 735-6597.
They have what you need..cheap.

That was one of the two I found earlier. From the online catalog: MLX 10 & 10D Flex Board $37.95. I had read in several earlier posts that people were buying these for $20-$25. That adds up to several hundred dollars if you have more than a few telephones.

Any tips on how to install these? Are they sensitive to skin oils or especially sensitive to static? Is there anything easily damaged I should know about?

I took one of my phones apart tonight to see what the flex board looked like. I found the flex board and it does have a few discolored spots that I assume are the oxidization. Most of the insides don't seem to be too difficult to reassemble, but I did have one small clear plastic piece that looks like a Y shaped standoff with a pin sticking out one side fall out before I saw where it came from. I'm sure I can take another phone apart and locate where this piece belongs, but I don't mind any suggestions about where to look.

Try . We use them for our parts and have not had any problems. Currently these are listed at $12 there, so you can save a ton of money. Changing them is not a problem- just take your time and don't force anything!
