Hi There,

I have a functional UNIX script that handles the ftp of files between two UNIX servers, Now I want to change it a bit so that It can handle FTP from a NT server into a UNIX Server, This script should run on the UNIX server,

so when I do ftp xx.xx.xxx.xx ( ip address of the NT server) from the UNIX machine, I get the following error message
ftp: connect: Connection refused
, Am I missing something , My first hunch is that the ftp service is not installed on the NT server ?

Thank You

Thats exactly what it is, or, they are using ftp on another port.

An FTP server must be installed on Windows before you can ftp files to it.

Thanks for your Answer, How do I know on which port they are running the ftp on ?, I am not that familiar with this process, Can you please shed some light on the ftp process using port numbers

Thank you

Ask the NT server's admin if the ftp service is started and running.

Hope This Helps, PH.

Before assuming they use a different port, I would expect there is no ftp-server running.

The ftp-port is 21. If they changed it, they would have to inform every user (and explain, how they change the port with their programs).

An ftp-server not only needs to be installed, but started, or a superserver has to be started, which starts the ftp-server on demand. (I guess on NT and 2000 a ftp-server is normally installed).

On NT and Win2k, an FTP server is not installed by default, this requires the use of IIS.

type netstat -a from the command prompt on the nt server. it should tell you if the listener is up. Most likely it is not unless you have configured it already.
