Hi Folks,

I need to replace a couple of PIX 501s I have (probably with just one device). The things I need are:

1. More substantially more throughput on the Internet port (and perhaps on the switch also if I can get it without spending a lot). The firewall device will connect to a 50Mbps Internet connection.
2. Ability for remote users to connect via VPN and then go back out to the Internet and appear to be coming from the firewall device's subnet (hairpinning?).
3. Not spend a whole lot more than I spent on the PIX 501's (around $500 or so when I bought them some years back).

I'd appreciate suggestions and pointers to any reviews/comparisons you might be aware of.

Thanks!

Here is the model comparison

The 5505 starts around $600 for an unlimited license. The Sec plus license jumps it to ~$950. How many concurrent sessions do you need is the bigger question. The base 5505 does 10, the sec plus 25. If you need more the 5510 starts near the low $2K.

I agree with Supergrrover. We recently went from 501s to ASA5505. We were so impressed with what the ASA5505 can do that we are going to replace the 501s in the field with them. It's a far superior product and it's the same price as 501s, which, as you know, are EOL.
