Does anybody have an old SPARCServer 1000 (circa 1994)?

If so, do you happen to know if a low profile (1" high) hard drive will fit into the slots where the original ST51080N (0.75" high) drives go?

I have an SS1000 and one of the 4 HDs died (this is fatal, as they were only 1GB each) - and nobody seems to make 0.75" drives these days. The closest (and smallest) I can find is the Seagate ST318???N which is 18GB and 1" high. Well, that's a US$175 investment that I have nowhere else to use if it doesn't fit, so I really want to be sure before I try. Otherwise it's a full US$140 to get an aftermarket - exact model replacement (which doesn't seem worth it).

Thanks in advance for any help.

I'd start with as a point of reference.

The SE Handbook lists the following as compatible drives:

11 370-1424 535MB 5400 RPM Disk Drive, Conner CP30540
11 370-1424 535MB 5400 RPM Disk Drive, Seagate ST3610N
11 370-1710 1.05GB 5400 RPM Disk Drive, Seagate ST31200N
11 370-1963 1.05GB 5400 RPM Disk Drive, Conner CFP1080S
11 370-1957 2.1GB 7200 RPM Disk Drive, IBM DFHS-32160
11 370-2067 2.1GB 7200 RPM Disk Drive, Seagate ST32550N

I'd be more inclined to buy somewhat newer hardware. Ebay has tons of sparc 5/10/20, ultra 1/2 etc.

Cheers,
Keith
