Hi

I am looking for a way to prompt for a parameter when a user clicks on a drill down or on-demand sub report. I want to sort on the subreport and ask the user each time how he/she wants to sort. Right now the parameter is being prompted from the main report. I just want the parameter to come up immediately after the user clicks on the on-demand subreport. I would appreciate any ideas.

I am not totally sure but I think all Parameters must be entered before main report is run.

Your user will have to decide on sort order of sub report before they run it.

Create parameter in both reports, then when you link subreport, select Parameter from main report and use window in bottom left to select parameter in subreport.

You do not have to do this it just looks neater for the user.

Thanks for the response

I am not sure what you mean when you say the window in the bottom left. All I see is the parameter window coming up asking for input as soon as the report fires up. I don't see any other place to input parameters. I don't mind putting in a parameter in the main report. I just want to be able to change parameters before running the on-demand subreport so a different sort takes effect each time the report runs . The only thing close to a solution is creating separate sub reports per sort.

Thanks

I was referring to the subreport linking window, (Edit - Edit Subreport Links).

I think you are right, insert subreport twice with different sort orders.

Take care as the subreport will retain original name if you just modify and reinsert, it will ignore new name. However, as it is an on demand you can edit the name which appears in Preview. In the format subreport window, select subreport tab and then amend the On Demand Caption formula.
