I bought a new router from draytek for the sip trunks and wireless on my system and having major issues.

It's a small office with SIP trunking on my IP Office, so if you could recommend an extremely simple but powerful wireless router that is easy to configure with SIP trunking, please do so in the next few hours. I need to buy asap.

Thank you,

Draytek should work, although I don't know how their WiFi are and think their interface is kinda strange.

I just use a LinkSys router with Advanced Tomato at home.

We use Draytek a lot with IP Office and no issues at all.
Did you upgrade to the latest release?
Beside that, what are those major issues?

In my opinion use anything but Sonicwall

Put the Draytek on latest firmware should be OK, had a couple of occasions in the past where trunk issues were unfixable through Draytek, but not these days :)

I know it's not "business class", but I run an Asus RT N66u in my home office, running advanced tomato firmware. It has a great interface (I think), powerful wireless, and has never given me any trouble. I use sip trunks through flowroute with zero problems. I've setup one-x over sip, h323 remote workers, also setup a 3cx pbx with remote worker apps, no problem. It's fast, and stable.

Upgrading the firmware should resolve most issues.

@AACon, i have exactly the same router at home. Best one i ever had, great value for money!

Hey guys sorry for the delay....was out camping all weekend and disconnected. I didn't go and buy a new router yet, I kind of figure I should give the Draytek 2912N a little bit more time to see if I can work the bugs out of it.

I'll first update firmware tonight, thank you amriddle and intrigrant.

So the SIP trunks on my Draytek are working perfectly with the IP Office and my EMT UCx. So that's settled. It was a matter of having 10000-13999 ports opened in the wrong panel. Draytek doesn't use words like Port Forwarding, they word it Open Ports and Port Redirection.

There are remote phones on the UCx that run off Port 7000 on the UCx that the Draytek refuses to register. Still trying to figure that out with the EMT guys. I haven't tried any remote phones on the IP Office yet.

You guys asked above what the other problem is....I have been using a windows laptop connected via wireless to the Draytek and the computer keeps freezing up each time it loses connection to the Draytek. Apparently I was on Channel 6 on the router and there were quite a few collisions causing the router to go haywire. I switched it to a less collison channel 2, so far so good. Any advice on that matter?

Thanks again.

I have that Asus RT N66u at home as well and is a good router for testing purposes and in general for my home network.

The truth is just an excuse for lack of imagination.

Yes and thank you too Critchey. I think our building recommended that we use that one for their ISP. My telecom buddies recommended the Draytek.

Well the Asus is a "home" router not really a "business" router. If you have a small network it would be OK but I can't say that I have ever tried it on a bigger network nor would I really suggest it in a business scenario. You say it is a small office... how small are we talking? How many computers? Do you use digital phones or IP phones? If you have say 2-3 computers and use digital phones it should be OK. Worse case you end up buying it and using at home as a fancy "test" router in case you ever need it.

The truth is just an excuse for lack of imagination.

This is for my home office that my wife and I share. Four Phone Systems....CS1000, BCM, IP Office and E-MetroTel UCx, mostly Avaya and Nortel IP Phones mixed. I still have to get the IP Office up and running.

She obviously doesn't give a flying flip about the phones, she hates them actually, she just wants good solid internet.

Four phone systems plus IP phones is probably pushing it on the Asus router I can not tell you if it would work ok or not for that situation. I have 4 or so devices at home and if I do any testing at home its one system and one phone. Sounds like far less then what you would be using it for.

The truth is just an excuse for lack of imagination.

All routers are effected by wireless congestion equally, there are only 3 true non-overlapping channels on WiFi and all routers pick one of those (6 being very popular).

With wireless use increasing massivley these days it'll only get worse. Use the built in scanner on the Draytek to look for the best channel. Never heard of a 2912 though?

Ah, that's probably half the issue. You should never use the voice variants with trunks/handsets on another system. Those voice variants interfere even more with VoIP as you would expect, that's what they're designed to do.

A bit like wondering why your Avaya softphone doesn't work while you're running Skype on your PC.

That's not a good thing for you, you should use a 2832 or 2860 etc :)

I currently manage/oversee a customers network where they have 180+ 2832/2830/2860s VPNd back to a 3900, programmed it all myself :)
