I have just been tasked with getting music on hold for our older Definity G1 PBX. I have been unceremoniously elected our new Definity adminstrator and am extremely new to the entire system. After doing some research I have concluded that I need some sort of interface card that we currently don't have in order to utilize hold music. Any help or pointers about this would be GREATLY appreciated!!! Thanks in advance

I am not teribly farmiliar with the definity 1however with the definity g3 the interface is more like a volume regulator that is attached to an analog port. then plugged into a music source. hope this helps. José

This does help except that I'm not sure that I have a free analog port. I finally talked to someone from Definity and they told me that I needed to "punch down" my music source onto an aux. trunk board, which I also don't think we have. He said that we needed a 600 Ohm resistor between the board and the music source. I'm wondering if there is any sort of diagrams or step-by-step instructions out there that anyone can direct me to? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I am sure there is something out there however I wouldnt know where.
But basicaly you will need to get either an aux trunk board or a free analog port. if you purchase the resistor from avaya it will be a little square box with rj45 jacks on either side one will be labeled input and the other output. the easiest way to procede from here is to punch down the free analog port to a regular wall /floor jack and use a standard phone cord to connect the jack to the output end of the resistor.
The other end however is a little more trickey depending on your music source you will need a cable with some sort of audio connector on one end and a rj 11 or 45 connedtor on the other. It is easiest to make this I am sure someone makes them but why spend the money. What I did was take a standard pc audio cable and cut off the end then connect it to the center pair of an rj 45 connector. plug the audio end into the music source and the rj end into the input side of the resistor.
Then some where in the systems options page of your set menues you will find a box that should say somethins like play music on hold from then a blank put the port number here.
There are really strict regulations on the use of copyrighted music on hold so keep this in mind.
