Hello

I'm unable to reproduce the effect used to produce the 'BIG' on the following logo.

I can't seem to stick the landing on the 'v' effect on the bottom of the "BIG'.

Do you think the creator used a clipping mask, pathfinder effect...etc?

I need to reproduce a similar effect and for it to be cut from vinyl film, so I can't use a mask (which shows when cutting with a signmaking program).

I need for it to show plain, without masks.

Many Thanks!

You need to learn how to use the pen tool.

All I did was draw 2 guides along the bottom of the letters, and used them to guide the ascending and descending bottom edges, and it took about 5 minutes to do this...

Thank You.

It's true I don't have a lot of experience with the pen tool and I appreciate your assistance.

Could you give a quick step-by-step?

Again, thank you very much for your help.

First, place your image and lock it:

Next, draw a straight path from the top of the roof (in the "I") following the bottom of the letters to the left. Then, reflect across the vertical axis with the reflection point right at the rooftop:

Select both paths, and make guides out of them (Alt-V-U-M, or View>Guides>Make Guides):

Draw a path (narrow red stroke, no fill) following the "B", use the guides to shave along the bottom:

Draw the openings inside the "B", then select the outside path and openings, turn the red stroke into a red fill, and either go to the Pathfinder to do "Subtract From Shape Area", or go to Object>Compound Path>Make to knock the openings out:

Here's a pdf, too, with the drawing in it. Look it over (open in Illustrator) and see if it helps.
