I'm trying to intall drivers for my audigy 2 soundcard on my xp pro system for the first time. Upon installation it says "vxd files are detected on your system, uninstall them before installing wdm files". i tried going intot the registry to get rid of my audio vxd codecs and physically disabling the on board sound in the bios. didn't help. uninstall any mainboard audio vxd in my computer directories, no luck there. Can someone please help me, i'm really stuck. My mobo is a ecs l4s8a2

No, it is a clean install for this system because i built it from scratch, this audigy2 driver is the first one i'm trying to put on it. i've looked on the link you posted, it's dead because there are no replies to the help topics, i appreciate any help i can get on this issue, thank in advance ppl.

Have you tried the creative site, download the newest drivers from there,or upgrade from there. There are lots and lots of fixes and upgrades for that card.

I have the same card and had a few problems installing it.

If that will not work, uninstall all the software if there is any on your machine right now,do a search and uninstall everything, then take out your card .

Make sure you have all your XP updates done SP1 etc.

Reinstall your card and let windows find it again, install the software.

Good luck

Please let us know if the advice we give is of some help.

the installation cd that came with the card have a known problem with freezing the install process at 95%. So i d/l the latest win xp drivers from the creative site and those drivers are the one that is asking me to remove the vxd files. I tried switching pci slot for the card already and it reads it but when it ask for new drivers to install the only one that i have is the one i d/l because the cd install .exe again does not work. So i'm in a constant loophole with no end in sight. Again i appreciate any help i can get on this since it is my first time running into this issue. Any vxd file removal tool that you guys may know of?

I think your best bet would be to phone Creative support They can walk you though it. The phone # is in your manual Please let us know if the advice we give is of some help.

Ok people, i finally fixed it. Called creative today and there is a tool on the install cd that requires some searching but it's there and it removes the vxd files at the same time replaces them with wdm. Rebooted and everything worked fine now, thanks everyone for the support in my time of darkness. Hope this info helps for anyone who might encounter the same problem. This forum rocks!!!
