Hi!
I have picked up quite a bit from this site so THANK YOU members! I am a complete newbie to the Nortel system or don't know the commands at all. Thanks to all the questions and solutions on this site I have learned a lot on how to do things on the PBX.

However, I have a situation where I need to add a 2nd line to a station on the Nortel Option 11c system we have. Our Customer Service folks cannot put a customer on hold and then dial another phone number so I needed to know how to add this functionality to their phones. I found the solution and added an open phone number to key 1 for the user. However what I don't know and my question is - does this 2nd station (3403) need to have a true definition and be configured to a port on the system?

Please be very detailed in the solution and let me know the commands that I might need, too. Thanks so much!!!

P.S.-Is there is listing of what all the CLS's mean?

Hi, LayDeeeDi:

You do not need to build a full "station".

There are multiple few ways to handle this. I create a "roll-over" DN key. For us, it's the easiest method for our users. Our standard is each phone is provisioned with 2 lines by default.

Below is the basic recipe I use.

1.) The second DN (extension number assigned to the key 1), need not be one associated with a DID (external phone number), but just a free number in the system. i.e., 3XXX may be your primary extensions, 2XXX may be your secondary. 3386 & 2386. You can also make it a 5 digit for the secondary -- I have one site that is 6XXX and 26XXXX. However, depending on the software version / licensing, you may not be able to use 5 digits.
2.) Ensure CLS includes HTA, HunTing Allowed, which allows the roll-over magic to work.
** 3.) Ensure CLS includes IRA, (Incoming Ringing Line Preference Allowed)
3.) LHK 1 <-- this tells the system that if there is a call already on key 0, roll the call over to key 1. (Last hunt key)
** 4.) LPK 1 <-- this says that if a call is ringing on key 1, and the user lifts the handset, automatically answer that call. This saves the user from having to pick up the handset and then pressing the line key that is ringing. (line preference key)

Note that for this all to work, you need to make sure you are using keys 0 and 1.

** -- these are only needed, if you want to have incoming calls to roll over to the secondary key.

Below is an example from one of my systems.
