Hi,

I'm having my first go at tapecopy and it is not going well. The command I'm using is

tapecopy -dPRGP2 -qOnOrAfter(9/22/08,21:10)

There are two issues I'm having. The first and most important is that the copy isn't happening. This is what I see.

Copying session 1 of 18
Before Query Copy
Database maintenance. moved [0] tapes to scratch.
Scratch list has 0 tapes in it.
Tapes are in the device groups: src- PGRP0 , trg- PGRP2
Connecting to tapes...
Connecting to source tape. please wait...
Connecting to source tape name [9/22/08 9:15 PM] rid [6945] seq [1] s/n[1000012].
Connecting to target tape. please wait...
WAITING ON SCRATCH/BLANK TAPE AVAILABILITY

My devices are FSDs and are all visible to windows. The target media is in the scratch set. Any idea what it is waiting for?

The second issue has to do with the files being copied. It looks like it wants to copy the backup that ran at 9:00 PM even though the command line asks for backups after 9:10 PM.

Thanks,
- Joel

Here's some more info. What we are trying to do is create a copy of a full backup that we can take out of the building. The offsite copy is in a different media pool. I don't know if that is the cause of the problem. We are changing the way we do our backup and already have a media pool for the offsite copies. I guess my thinking here is that tapecopy wants the destination tape to be blank. Either that, or I need to use the "-m" option. It would be nice to know the incantation to use so the source and destination can be in different media pools and that tapecopy would overwrite the old contents of the destination media.

Thanks,
- Joel

Still more info.

The ultimate goal here is to run tapecopy as a post script. Therefore, I need to be able to use a generic set of arguments. The scenario should always be the same. The source FSD will be in PGRP1 and the dest will be in PGRP2. Each group will only have 1 FSD in it. For testing purposes I'm using PGRP0 as my source. This groups has 9 FSDs in it. I did get it run using

tapecopy -dPGROUP2 -qOnOrAfter(9/22/2008,21:30) -dSerialNum 1200012 -m DEVEL_MLY -forceMerge

I was only able to do this once. I don't know what would happen if I leave the serial number off. To try it again I erased the FSD but something remembers that the sessions have already been copied.

Hwllo,

This should prpbably be a separate thread, but the site is refusing to let me post new threads. That said, I have backup tapes created under ARCServe/BrightStor 9, of data from an NT4 domain. When I go to restore (with Symantec BackupExec 11D), it asks for the domain credentials, which I have. But the NT4 domain no longer exists!!

How can I bypass the perms and retrieve this data??

Thank you
