Well there are a couple of programs you can use to help you, but they are not 100%. I've used a program called getdataback. Now it all depends on what type of filesystem you are running. They have ones for fat and ntfs. One of the major problems with these programs is if you have done a complete wipe of your hd you won't get lucky, but from what it sounds like you just deleted the files and in which case you most likely should be able to get them back. I've have been able to recover files even after a complete format.
