I have been hired in as an IT manager for a business, and am having a problem with the Audix system here.

Please keep in mind, I have never touched an Audix system before, and am completely new to its interface and OS.

While the system seems to function properly, every few seconds the message scrolls up:

"NOTICE: vxfs: vx_nospace - /cas file system full (8 block extent)"

I haven't been able to find anyone with this exact same error through Google searching, but the discussions around it are between experienced users of the system, and aren't of much help to me.

One more thing... Upon inspection of the system, I ejected the tape backup to discover that the tape had jumped the path and completely destroyed itself. So it makes sense to me that "/cas" could refer to a tape "cas"sette, but that's just a guess. What doesn't make sense about that to me is why it would still give a full error if the tape is simply absent.

Any help to get this problem fixed would be greatly appreciated. But remember, you're speaking to a total newbie on this type of system.

Thanks in advance!

I'm not quite sure if this is the correct board for the question.

If the Audix is connected to a Definity system, you might want to post the question on the Definity board.

If it ain't broke, I haven't fixed it yet.

I'm really not sure about that. All I know is that there are wires coming out of the back of the Intuity unit going into a Merlin Magix unit, so this seemed like the right place to start.

I apologize for my ignorance... put me in front of a Windows network and I'm right at home. I don't know the first thing about telephone systems like this, other than the boss wants it fixed. :p

Do a google on "NEH Telecom", and you will find a guy called Chris who invented the darn Audix.

Sorry [purpleface]. I didn't see any reference to Magix in the initial post.

More often than not, Magix systems use one of the Merlin Messgaing voicemails. When I see Audix, the first thing I think of is Definity. [wink]

If it ain't broke, I haven't fixed it yet.

The Intuity Audix is a USL Unix based system.
The issue presented indicates that the Intuity PC has a call accounting system (CAS)installed as an adjunct and the file system partition has maxed out of file space.
The files need to be deleted thru the CAS interface on the VM in order to clear space. Unix will not overrite files on this system.

Thanks phonesrus, that helped a lot. The actual CAS was empty, but deleting a few of the logs stopped the error (at least for the moment).

Two more questions... on this system, a log is just a log, right? Nothing bad can come from deleting them all, correct?

Also, about that chewed up tape. Is it just a backup? A google search pointed to a few of them for sale, but a lot of them said they have the Audix software on them. Do I need to replace it, or at the least is it a very good idea to? Do I need to worry about different versions of the tapes if I do?

Thanks!

Deleting the logs will not hurt anything, the logs accumulate over time and are usually cleared by a cold boot, which should be done periodically, twice a year is best. Just delete the info, not the directory because the system will not recreate it.
Regarding the tape, it depends on what system release you have. Tapes with software are for build/rebuild if you have a corruption. 5.x software is on CD's
If you have a release 4.x you need a 525MB tape (Sony QD6525 or equivalent)which will work in all 4.x releases. Some of the tapedrives can use up to a 2gig tape, it depends on the drive.
If you have a release 5.x, then you will need a Travan TR-4 (4/8gig)tape cartridge.
Either way you will probably need to clean the drive and check the drive wheel, the 525 drive should be removed and the cover removed to clean it properly. A cleaning tape doesn't necessarily do a proper job if a tape has been damaged.
