I've got WinXP on hda1, Red Hat 9 on hdd6 & Slackware 9.0 on hdd7.. Slackware 9 was the last one I installed but I cant get it up and running - I tried using Lilo but it didnt seem to work.. basicly Lilo has never worked on my machine - not sure why so thats why I'm using GRUB. I can boot to XP or RH no problem at all but when I try to boot to Slackware it comes up with an error and brings me back to the GRUB menu..

Can someone please help me on what I should be doing as I've never had any experience with playing around with boot loaders..

Here is the grub.conf file if it helps:

default=1
timeout=10
splashimage=(hd1,5)/boot/grub/splash.xpm.gz
title Red Hat Linux (2.4.20-8)
root (hd1,5)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.4.20-8 ro root=LABEL=/ hdb=ide-scsi
initrd /boot/initrd-2.4.20-8.img
title Windows XP
rootnoverify (hd0,0)
chainloader +1
title Slackware Linux 9.0
rootnoverify (hd1,6)
chainloader +1

Any help appreciated :) thanks

title Slackware Linux 9.0
root (hd1,6)
kernel /dev/hdb7/boot/vmlinuz ro root=/dev/hdb7

I haven't used grub for a while, so I think (hd1,7) refers to /dev/hdb7. Try that and see if it boots...I think is should work.

hey it worked!

now thats workin i will try putting solaris and debian on :s

thanks heaps :)
