hi,

Can anyone help me with a small problem we have?
When we try to do a backup on our system, Backup Exec doesnt apear to compress any files, is it possible to turn on file compression with version 8.0? If so how?

Thanks for your help,
Pete

There are two types of compression, hardware implemented and software implemented. To use hardware compression, the drive has to support this.

Open the devices tab and select the correct drive. Right click and select properties. Click on the configuration tab. If your drive type supports hardware compression you should be able to tick the check box to enable this. Click Ok.

If you want to enable compression as a default for new jobs, click tools, options and click on the backup tab. There is a drop down selection, letting you specify hardware compression only, or software also if available.

If you want to enable compression for just one job, this same compression drop down selection appears on the job properties page on the advanced tab.

Hope this helps ;->

What exactly do you mean with DOS version? Are you using the commandline for backup exec?
