Ok, I will be the first to admit this. Phone systems are not for computer guys, but it some how became my job to add two new phones, 2 CO's and re-program the CCR.

I just need someone to set me straight before I fry something. :)

Here it goes.
We have a RAD it goes into the wiring block, but not connected to anything else - OK, what do I connect this to?
We do have spare port available, if that's where it connects.

I have the Software - NRU 9.0 - I know the PC uses RS-232 to connect to the RAD, then what?

Our NAM II ????? has a modem, I can connect phone line and dial the number to it and it connects, but I am not sure if this the right way to connect to the phone system to program it? :)

Well the nice MR. Installer Man left us with users manuals, but nothing else, your guess is right I know nothing beyond this. Since other materials are not available to me, I am at a loss.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

BTW- I was not able to use the Keyword search, so if some of this material was covered elsewhere, please point me to it.

NAM2 is your Voice mail system.
For the RAD you use a spare port off the KSU and plug into the RJ11 jack as you would a phone. Now enter Feature 9** from any set and enter a password of your choice, re-enter again and press release or next to set the local baud rate to match your PC.
You can use the PC on the RAD if you have a PC or laptop in the phone room or you can simply dial into the phone system via any PC's modem that has the NRU software on it.
The Software you have? do you mean the CD or only loaded on the PC?? it has all the instructions and trouble shooting docs on it.Whatsoftware is the KSU at?

Only a trained technician should be adding phones to a system as there are a lot of details in programming to look at and you need to also know how to program to begin with. We have 3 sides to programming in a KSU- Nortels side, Technicians side and Customers side.
If your company refuses to have a telephone tech install phones then best they send you on a couple coures, one for Voice mail and one for phone systems at a tech level and not an admin...imagine what you have done to get where you are now to setup a network etc and then ask some phone guy to now do it without courses or on hands training...get my drift?
Wish I could help more but having an understanding of how it all works and if you had been programming before then it would be a little easier to guide you. Telephone companies offer ADMIN programming which enables you to do limited programming on KSU's.

Thanks for your response; ok maybe I was a little too vague. I have installed and programmed phones before, just not on Norstar. I am very familiar with system level programming. Most phone systems have some kind of OS that is guided with system programming and Admin level controls - such as setting up VM, Security, etc.
My main problem as you said it best I am not familiar with Norstar.

What I got from your post is:
Hook up the RAD to one of the available ports
Make sure a CO line directed to it or at least an out side CO can find it's way to that ext
Dial up that line using a PC with the NRU software on it

The other is way Hook up a PC to the RAD's Serial port directly, just make sure you are using the right cable - as covered in the NRU guides.
Then use the NRU Direct Connect to connect to the system.

Ok I will try this and see how far I get.

I may still need help from this point on. Just like a computer guy always asking another tech to the work, and over paid too... Just kidding!

Thanks

If you are on site? It would be easier for you to program from a phone. I could email you some helpful information on programing via a phone.

Good Luck!!

The e-mail would be great, I could always use the help.
My email address is david.beg@portablesonline.com

Thanks

Ok well its good you have some knowledge then :)
You can call into the phone system and have the operator transfer you to the RAD using Feat 9*0 (you need a regular phone plugged into your modem) this way you do not need to dedicate a C.O..
